Planned Surgery and Temporary Break from Public Appearances
The Price Tag singer confirmed she would step back from the spotlight to have surgery after the performance.
“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she said. “I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music.”
Jessie J said she wanted to be transparent with fans and help herself process the diagnosis.
Openness and Solidarity With Others Affected
“I just wanted to be open and share it,” she said. “One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard.”
She added that public sharing in the past brought her support from others facing similar situations.
“I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”
Jessie J also highlighted the broader emotional impact.
“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that’s the bit that kills me.”
Public Response and Industry Support
The singer’s announcement received support from fellow artists and fans across social media. TV and radio presenter Gaby Roslin commented with “so much love and enormous hugs”.
Singer Rita Ora responded: “You’re literally my favourite person and I’m praying for you, you’ve got this. My mother had it and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough so I’m here for you. X.”
Artists including Leona Lewis, Rochelle and Marvin Humes, and Wretch 32 also shared words of encouragement.
Personal Background and Health Challenges
Jessie J, born Jessica Cornish in Essex, has faced health issues throughout her life. She was diagnosed with a heart condition at age eight and suffered a minor stroke at 18. In 2020, she temporarily lost hearing due to Meniere’s disease.
In 2023, she gave birth to her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman. The birth followed a miscarriage in November 2021. Last year, she also shared that she had been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD.
She said the diagnosis had given her “incredible perspective” despite the challenge of its timing.
“But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug,” she told fans. “You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

Upcoming Performances and Recent Decisions
Jessie J is scheduled to perform at Capital’s Summertime Ball on 15 June at Wembley Stadium. She was also named among performers for BBC Radio 2’s “Radio 2 in the Park” event in September.
In a separate interview with BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills, the singer revealed she had turned down a major Broadway role. She had been offered the part of Sally Bowles in Cabaret.
“I recently got offered a huge role on Broadway but I turned it down because it wasn’t the right time,” she said. “My son was too young and I just couldn’t.”
Jessie J noted her musical theatre background and expressed interest in taking a similar role in the future.
“I will do it at some point, and it was an amazing audition process and I was so proud that I got it.”
Breast Cancer Context in the UK
Breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer among women in the United Kingdom. According to the NHS, early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
The NHS advises women to check their breasts regularly and look for changes in size, shape, or feel. Breast cancer can present differently in individuals, making awareness and early screening critical.
Jessie J’s announcement brings further visibility to breast cancer awareness and emphasises the importance of regular medical check-ups.
Continued Commitment to Music and Fans
Despite the diagnosis, Jessie J expressed gratitude towards her fans and confirmed her intention to return.
She plans to focus on recovery, release more music, and continue connecting with her audience in future projects. Her message closed with thanks to those offering support.
