Wayne Osmond, a beloved member of the iconic Osmonds singing group, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at 73. His brother Donny Osmond shared the news and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the moments he shared with Wayne during his final days.
“My dear brother Wayne passed away peacefully last night from a stroke,” Donny wrote on Instagram. “Wayne brought so much light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist and was loved by everyone.”
Donny also reflected on the family’s faith, stating, “Even though we are separated in this mortal life, I know that by the grace and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we will have the opportunity to be with Wayne for eternity.”
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Born on August 28, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, Wayne was the fourth oldest of the nine Osmond siblings. As one of the original members of The Osmonds, he joined Alan, Merrill, and Jay Osmond to form a barbershop quartet in 1958. Their talent was quickly recognised, and in 1961, Jay Emerson Williams, father of entertainer Andy Williams, discovered them performing at Disneyland. This led to their recurring appearances on NBC’s The Andy Williams Show, which launched their career into the national spotlight.
Beyond music, the Osmond brothers ventured into acting, notably in the ABC primetime western The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963-1964), where Wayne played Leviticus Kissel alongside a young Kurt Russell.
Stardom in the 1970s
The Osmonds achieved phenomenal success in the 1970s, especially after Donny Osmond joined the group. Their dynamic performances, harmonious vocals, and charismatic stage presence captivated audiences worldwide. Hits like “One Bad Apple” and “Crazy Horses” solidified their place in pop music history.
Wayne also contributed significantly to the group’s creative endeavours, co-writing many songs. The group frequently appeared on the ABC variety show Donny & Marie, hosted by their siblings Donny and Marie Osmond. By the fourth season, the program was rebranded as The Osmond Family Show, further showcasing their familial bond and wide-ranging talents.

A Shift to Country Music
In the 1980s, Wayne, Alan, Merrill, and Jay made a bold transition to country music. Their efforts in this new genre produced several hits, including “I Think About Your Lovin’,” proving their versatility and ability to connect with audiences across genres.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Wayne’s resilience and passion for music remained undeterred. Diagnosed with a brain tumour in the mid-1990s, he underwent treatment that resulted in partial hearing loss. However, he continued to share his love for music with the world, inspiring many with his determination.
Personal Life
Wayne married Kathlyn White in 1974, and the couple had five children. Family was central to Wayne’s life, and his daughter Amy paid tribute to him in a heartfelt Facebook post. He was a loving husband and father, always putting his family first. His children often accompanied him on tours, and he cherished those moments.
“I am having a hard time expressing the depth of my sadness that I won’t have my ‘twin’ in my life for a while,” Amy wrote. “But I am so grateful for the incredible memories, his strength, loyalty to our family, and his love. I look forward to the day I can see him again on the other side. I love you, Dad.”
