Ontario Releases 2024 Public Sector Salary Disclosure

Ontario Releases 2024 Public Sector Salary Disclosure

The Ontario government has published the 2024 Public Sector Salary Disclosure, detailing the earnings of public sector employees who made $100,000 or more in the past year. This annual release, required under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996, aims to ensure transparency in the compensation of government-funded employees.

Significant Salary Increases in 2024

According to Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board, the largest salary increases in 2024 were driven by salary adjustments, retroactive payments, and recent collective bargaining agreements. Notably, nearly half of the growth in the salary disclosure list came from the school board sector, with teachers accounting for 87% of this increase.

The disclosure covers employees in various public institutions, including:

  • The Ontario Public Service
  • Crown agencies and corporations
  • Ontario Power Generation and its subsidiaries
  • Publicly funded organizations such as hospitals, municipalities, school boards, universities, and colleges
  • Not-for-profit organizations receiving significant provincial funding

Transparency and Public Access

The 2024 salary data is now available in a machine-readable format on Ontario.ca/salarydisclosure, making it easy for the public to search and analyze. The Ontario government emphasizes that this initiative reinforces accountability and allows taxpayers to see how public funds are allocated.

Background on the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 requires any organization receiving public funding from Ontario to disclose the names, positions, salaries, and total taxable benefits of employees earning $100,000 or more annually. The law applies to institutions receiving over $1 million in government funding or those where provincial contributions account for at least 10% of their gross revenues.

Ongoing Commitment to Financial Transparency

The Ontario government remains committed to financial accountability and ensuring fair compensation practices across the public sector. The disclosure serves as a tool for public scrutiny, enabling Ontarians to stay informed about salary trends within government-funded institutions.

For further details, the full dataset can be accessed on the official Ontario government website.
