Aldi Recalls Baby Potatoes Nationwide Over Hidden Milk Allergen Risk as ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning Issued

Aldi Recalls Baby Potatoes Nationwide Over Hidden Milk Allergen Risk as ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning Issued

Aldi has issued an urgent recall for a ready-to-eat potato product due to a labelling error.
The supermarket is recalling Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter, 385g pack size.
The recall affects products with a use-by date of 12 April 2025.

Unlabelled Allergen Poses Risk

The product contains milk, which is not mentioned on the label.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the labelling issue on 8 April 2025.
It issued an update the following day due to a formatting concern in the initial notice.

According to the FSA, “This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”
Consumers with milk allergies or intolerances are advised not to eat the product.
Instead, they should return it to the store for a full refund.

Aldi’s Official Statement

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “Our supplier is recalling Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter because it contains the allergen milk which is not listed on the packaging.
“Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.
“We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

Aldi confirmed the product has been removed from sale across all stores.
All affected products are being recalled as a precautionary measure.

Retail Response Measures

Aldi is displaying point-of-sale notices in all affected stores.
These notices explain the recall and inform customers about next steps.
The notices also advise customers not to consume the product and to return it.

Aldi stated that all of its products go through “rigorous safety and quality checks.”
The supermarket has also contacted allergy support organisations to inform members of the potential risk.

FSA Recommendations to Consumers

The FSA has advised: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it.
“Instead, return it to the store it was bought from for a full refund.
“For more information please visit: help.aldi.co.uk/s or contact Aldi customer services on 0800 042 0800.”

The agency emphasised the seriousness of undeclared allergens in consumer food products.
Milk allergies affect around two to three per cent of children.
Most children outgrow the allergy by age five.

Past and Related Recalls

This is not the first time Aldi has faced allergen-related recalls.
In 2024, Aldi recalled its Soupreme Creamy Chicken Soup due to unlisted peanut content.

Other recent recalls across the retail sector highlight similar concerns.
Last week, 3D Trading recalled Ruffles Sabor a Jamon Crisps due to undeclared milk and soya.
Consumers with allergies were advised not to consume the crisps and to return them.

Sainsbury’s recently issued a recall for its Belgian Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Pretzel bar.
The recall followed fears the 150g bar may contain metal fragments.
Affected bars had best-before dates up to the end of April.

Sainsbury’s advised: “If you have purchased the above product with the affected batch code, please do not consume this product and instead return it to any Sainsbury’s store for a refund.”

Consumer Rights in Product Recalls

Product recalls serve as a consumer protection mechanism.
In most cases, manufacturers initiate the recall process.
However, supermarkets often play a key role in notifying customers.

James Flanders, a chief consumer reporter, said: “Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.”

For non-food items, responsibility often lies with customers to register appliances. Unregistered products may prevent manufacturers from alerting customers to faults. Consumers should follow manufacturer instructions for returns, repairs or collections.

The ACCC advises that customers should not be charged for any recall-related repairs or replacements.
