Open-World Gotham Revealed
The new title will feature a fully explorable LEGO Gotham City. Players can drive the Batmobile through streets and alleys while grappling and gliding through skyscrapers. The studio showcased gameplay inspired by the Batman Arkham series, with a Freeflow combat system adapted for LEGO’s style. Footage presented combinations of stealth takedowns, environmental interactions, and aerial combat.
Story Rooted in Batman’s Legacy
The story begins with a young Bruce Wayne training a new League of Shadows. Wayne enlists such characters as Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman and Talia al Ghul. It will include their well-known villains, The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra al Ghul and Bane. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Matt Reeves The Batman inspire the project.
Celebrating Batman’s Iconic Identity
Jim Lee, President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC, highlighted the scope of the project. “Whether he’s the wrathful Dark Knight, the brilliant detective, or the unlikely father of the ‘Batfam,’ Batman has constantly evolved — shaped by the world around him while remaining a timeless symbol,” said Lee. “This game brings together nearly every facet of his legacy, letting you experience the full range of what makes Batman iconic. Built with incredible care, creativity, and deep respect for the mythos, TT Games has crafted a love letter to the world of Batman.”
Gameplay Blends Action and LEGO Humour
The reveal trailer included spoofs of famous Batman film moments. Scenes referenced the car chase in The Batman alongside Bane’s monologue from The Dark Knight Rises. Unlike the comedic approach seen in The LEGO Batman Movie, this trailer carried a tone closer to the Arkham series. However, LEGO humour remains present through parody and character interactions.
Return of the LEGO Batman Franchise
LEGO Batman titles previously formed a trilogy, with the last release LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in 2014. A mobile tie-in game launched in 2017 alongside The LEGO Batman Movie. In 2018, TT Games shifted focus to villains with LEGO DC Super-Villains. The franchise now returns, reflecting a new direction for TT Games.
TT Games and LEGO’s Gaming Legacy
Between 2005 and 2022, TT Games produced more than 20 licensed LEGO games. Franchisee had Marvel, DC, Harry Potter and Star Wars. The studio toyed with sandbox gameplay in LEGO Worlds and created LEGO Dimensions across universes. The latest achievement of the developer was LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, released in 2022, which set the performance records in the series.

Industry Context and Competition
TT Games once held dominance over licensed LEGO gaming. Today, other developers also create official LEGO titles. LEGO’s collaboration with Fortnite has further expanded the brand into new markets. Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives after a four-year gap since The Skywalker Saga, representing a break in TT Games’ annual release cycle.
The Evolution of Batman Games
For more than three decades, fans have played different interpretations of Batman on consoles and PC. Rocksteady’s Arkham series set a benchmark for open-world superhero games with freeflow combat and exploration. LEGO Batman titles offered lighter experiences, with LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes introducing early open-world mechanics in 2012. The new title aims to incorporate the Arkham formula into a LEGO framework.
Star Power Added to Cast
Actor Matt Berry will voice Bane in the game, adding a new comedic angle to the familiar villain. The casting underlines TT Games’ approach of balancing serious storytelling with playful tones.
Conclusion: A Comprehensive Cape and Cowl Adventure
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight combines Batman’s mythos with LEGO’s accessible gameplay. It spans comics, games, and films, while offering fans a new open-world Gotham. With a 2026 release across multiple platforms, the project positions itself as both a return to LEGO Batman and a new chapter in Batman’s lengthy gaming history.
