Airfare Prices Show Signs of Stabilisation
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) recently reported a decline in domestic airfares. According to its latest report, average fares dropped by 3% in December 2024 compared to the previous year.

ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey noted that airfare prices stabilised in December after rising in October and November due to high demand.
“The reduction in airfares is likely to have primarily benefitted business travellers, as high demand for leisure travel over the Christmas period often leads to a spike in the price of ‘best discount’ tickets,” Brakey said.
Increased Competition in the Airline Industry
The airline industry remains competitive, with major carriers offering significant discounts to attract travellers. Jetstar’s latest sale underscores the ongoing efforts by airlines to maintain affordable travel options while expanding their route networks. With the rise in budget-conscious travel, airlines continue to introduce aggressive pricing strategies to meet demand.
