The evening looked to belong to England after they stormed into a 3-0 lead early in the second half, thanks to a blistering start from Wayne Rooney, who scored the fastest goal in Soccer Aid history just four minutes into the match. He was joined on the scoresheet by Toni Duggan and Jermain Defoe, who added two goals of his own.

But the script was torn apart by former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, who delivered a masterclass in finishing. Coming on after halftime with his team trailing, the 41-year-old Argentine legend bagged four goals, turning the tide completely. His performance included a stunning free-kick and a brace of goals scored just 97 seconds apart.

Big Zuu Steals the Spotlight

Just when it seemed the match might end in a draw, British rapper and TV personality Big Zuu, who had been on punditry duty earlier, stepped onto the pitch and delivered the final blow. With only five minutes left on the clock, Zuu scored the winner, sealing the 5-4 triumph for World XI.

The rapper celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark “siuuu” celebration, to the delight of fans. Speaking post-match, Zuu said, “I don’t care if it’s Paddy, I don’t care if it’s David James, I don’t care if it’s Joe Hart. No likey, no lighty.”

Angry Ginge Wins Hearts and Applause

While the World XI may have taken the trophy, England’s Angry Ginge—popular YouTuber and content creator—earned widespread praise for his spirited defensive display. His goal-line clearance to deny Brazilian legend Rivaldo went viral on social media, with fans joking that Manchester United should sign him after their recent Premier League struggles. His efforts earned him the “Player of the Match” accolade.

An All-Star Lineup

Soccer Aid 2025 once again blended footballing legends with celebrities from music, entertainment, and sport. England’s lineup included former pros like Rooney, Duggan, and Defoe, while actors, singers, and athletes like Louis Tomlinson (formerly of One Direction), comedian Richard Gadd, and Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah added star power.

The World XI featured names such as Tevez, Rivaldo, and Bella Ramsey from “The Last of Us,” while also giving Big Zuu and other celebrities the chance to shine on one of football’s most iconic stages.

Rooney Adds Another Record at Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer, made headlines yet again at his former home ground. His fourth-minute goal became the fastest ever in Soccer Aid history, marking another record in a legendary career.

Rooney also served as a player-coach for the England team, working alongside fellow managers Tyson Fury, Harry Redknapp, and actor Vicky McClure. Fury was shown delivering an intense pre-match pep talk, laced with a few choice words that prompted ITV presenters to issue an on-air apology.

A Historic Fundraising Milestone

More than just a football match, Soccer Aid once again showed the power of sport and entertainment to unite people for a cause. Since its inception in 2006, the event has raised over £115 million for UNICEF. This year alone contributed a record £15 million, driven in part by TV personality Sam Thompson, who ran and cycled more than 260 miles with the Soccer Aid ball from Stamford Bridge in London to Old Trafford.

The Spirit of Soccer Aid

The annual charity fixture was co-founded by singer Robbie Williams and TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes. Over the years, it has featured legends like Diego Maradona, Paul Gascoigne, and Usain Bolt. Initially held biennially, it became an annual event from 2018 onwards and continues to draw huge crowds and viewership.

Soccer Aid 2025 proved once again why it holds a special place in the hearts of football fans and philanthropists alike—an exhilarating, high-scoring affair that delivered laughs, thrills, and life-changing support for children across the globe.
