PlayStation Network Down: Major Outage Hits PS5 and PS4 Users Worldwide

The PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently down, leaving PS5 and PS4 players unable to access online features. Gamers worldwide are reporting problems with PSN servers, affecting multiplayer gaming, the PlayStation Store, and other services.

PSN Server Status: Widespread Issues Reported

Reports of playstation down started flooding in around 6:00 p.m. ET on 7 February 2025. The PlayStation Network Status page has since been updated, confirming that every PlayStation server is experiencing issues.

According to Sony PlayStation Network, affected users are unable to:

  • Sign in to their PlayStation accounts
  • Access PlayStation Direct and account management

The playstation status page still marks all PlayStation servers down, with no timeline for a fix.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Japan posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“At this time, the PlayStation Network (including PlayStation Store) may not be available. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers. We are currently investigating the issue and working to restore service, so please be patient.”

Despite these statements, Sony PlayStation Network has not provided an estimated time for restoration.

How Long Will PlayStation Network Be Down?

Gamers are frustrated, questioning why is PlayStation Network not working and how long will PlayStation Network be down. The lack of communication from Sony PlayStation Network is adding to the confusion.

At the time of writing, 70,000 users have reported the PSN maintenance on Downdetector, suggesting this is a global outage.

Players Frustrated Over PlayStation Network Outage

Many players took to social media to vent their frustration. One major complaint is Sony’s choice of words—saying that “some” users are affected seems to downplay the scale of the issue.

Many gamers feel frustrated as the ongoing PSN maintenance disrupts their weekend gaming plans. One user shared that they had planned to play Rocket League with friends but were now stuck staring at an error screen. Another user expressed disappointment over the Monster Hunter Wilds beta test, pointing out that while PlayStation players were locked out, Xbox and PC players could still enjoy the game.

Error Codes and What Users Are Seeing

Players attempting to connect to the PlayStation Network are encountering error messages, including:

  • “PlayStation Network is currently undergoing maintenance (WS-37432-9)”
  • “PSN servers are currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

The PSN server status page confirms that PSN servers are down, but it does not explain the cause of the outage.

Is PlayStation Network Down Due to a Hack?

Speculation is growing about whether this PlayStation Network outage could be linked to a cyberattack. In 2011, PSN servers were down for weeks following a massive hack that exposed millions of user accounts.

However, there is no official confirmation that today’s PSN network outage is due to a security breach.

When Will PlayStation Servers Be Back Up?

Sony has not provided an update on when PlayStation Network will be back up. Given the scale of the issue, many players fear this PSN maintenance could last several hours, if not longer.

For now, gamers have little choice but to wait. The PlayStation status page will likely update when more information becomes available.

We will update this story as soon as new details emerge.
