Krispy Kreme leads National Donut Day celebrations
Krispy Kreme Australia is giving away 100,000 Original Glazed doughnuts nationwide on Friday, 6 June. The promotion marks National Donut Day, an annual event that originated in 1938. Customers can receive one free doughnut without any purchase requirement, but availability is limited and capped at one per person.
The offer runs during store trading hours, with early visits recommended between 6 am and 8 am. Krispy Kreme urges customers to check with local stores for specific timings. Participating locations in Perth include Hillarys, Perth City, Morley, Cannington, and Myaree.
Krispy Kreme opened its first WA store in 2014 in Whitfords, which remains the chain’s largest store in the country.
Statement from Krispy Kreme Australia
Laura Pashby, Marketing Manager at Krispy Kreme ANZ, said the event holds significance for the brand. “National Doughnut Day isn’t just a date on the calendar for us at Krispy Kreme – it is the day we eagerly anticipate all year long,” Pashby said.
“Our incredible te ams are already buzzing with excitement, ready to handcraft our iconic Original Glazed doughnuts,” she added. “Year after year, the love and enthusiasm we see from fans on this day is truly something special.”
According to Krispy Kreme, if the 100,000 doughnuts were laid end-to-end, they would stretch across eight Sydney Harbour Bridges.
Hot Light gives more free doughnuts throughout the year
Krispy Kreme also offers free hot Original Glazed doughnuts daily through its Hot Light promotion. The signal runs from 5 pm to 8 pm at select stores and alerts customers that fresh doughnuts are available without charge.
Historical origins of National Donut Day
National Donut Day began in 1938 and honours the Donut Lassies, women from The Salvation Army who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I in France. The organisation continues to mark the event by distributing doughnuts to veterans and holding public events.
“National Donut Day is a time to remember the lasting impact of a unique piece of history and to honour the heroic men and women who have served our country,” said Salvation Army national commander Merle Heatwole.
This year, events include the National Donut Day World Donut Eating Championship in Washington, D.C. alongside local community initiatives.
