A Powerball ticket holder from New South Wales has won the entire $100 million jackpot in draw 1517 on Thursday night. The life-changing Powerball prize marks Australia’s largest lottery win so far this year and ranks the winner as the third-largest individual lotto winner in the country. The draw followed a failed $50 million result last week, causing the jackpot to double and draw national attention.
The Lott confirmed the Powerball win shortly after the draw, revealing that the ticket was purchased in NSW or the ACT. With no other division one winners, the lucky entrant secured the full amount. The Lott’s spokesperson Matt Hart urged all players in Sydney to check their tickets immediately.
Winner Remains a Mystery in Sydney
Officials reported that the $100 million ticket was unregistered, and the winner has yet to come forward. Matt Hart stated, “There are 100 million reasons why all Sydney players who had an entry in this week’s draw should check their ticket as soon as possible.” He added, “Someone has become an overnight mid-week multi-millionaire but possibly doesn’t know it yet.”
The winning numbers were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21. The Powerball number was 6. The Lott has requested the winner call 131 868 to begin the claim process.
Massive National Participation for Historic Draw
With $100 million up for grabs, The Lott anticipated that nearly half of all Australian adults would participate in the draw. This resulted in 3,056,245 winning entries across the lower divisions, with a combined payout of more than $60 million.
Six players won division two prizes of $282,415.55 each. Division three saw 23 winners from Western Australia, where 187 players received $11,265 each. The $100 million prize was the largest Powerball offering since November.

This marks only the seventh time an Australian player has secured a $100 million lottery prize. In early May, another NSW man won $30 million in a Powerball draw. That winner, from Cessnock, said, “I just had this ticket on the fridge. A Queensland woman who split a $200 million prize in February 2023 has since relocated from Hawthorne, Brisbane, to a quiet coastal town. “I often speak with my partner about the version of us from last year to now, and if only we knew what was to come,” she said. “On a day-to-day basis, not a huge amount has changed. I still get up for the 6am gym session, and the dog still needs to be walked and fed.”

Though WA players missed out on division one and two prizes, 187 players still won significant amounts in lower divisions. Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender acknowledged the community impact. “WA is a better place to live thanks to Lotterywest grants, and this is all down to WA players and the retailers who sell Lotterywest games,” she said. All Lotterywest profits are directed into State Government community grants.
