Glastonbury Return Marked Emotional Milestone

Capaldi returned to Glastonbury Festival on 27 June for an unannounced but widely anticipated set. “Second time’s a charm on this one,” he said during his performance. “I just wanted to come and finish what I couldn’t finish last time.”

In 2023, Capaldi was unable to complete his Glastonbury set due to vocal issues and pronounced tics. The crowd sang “Someone You Loved” in his place. He closed his 2025 comeback performance with that same track, saying, “I couldn’t sing this song two years ago. I might struggle to finish it today for different reasons.”

“My name is Lewis Capaldi and I’m f … in’ back, baby,” he said, receiving overwhelming crowd support.

Swiss Festival Appearance And Global Chart Success

Capaldi surprised fans by performing at the OpenAir St Gallen festival in Switzerland, another 2023 show he had previously cancelled. He wrote on social media that he “had to come back and make it up to you all.”

He also celebrated the release of his latest single “Survive” on the same day as his Glastonbury return. The track debuted at number one in the UK and became the fastest-selling single of the year. “I’ve been away for a little while and to come back to this outpouring of love and support has been absolutely incredible,” he said in a video to fans. “I can’t thank everybody enough for all the kind words and stuff since Glastonbury, and now this. It’s been the best week of my life.”

Survive Co-Written With Longtime Collaborator

Capaldi co-wrote “Survive” with Romans, who also co-wrote “Someone You Loved.” The track marks their creative reunion. “Someone You Loved” turned 10x Platinum this year and remains the UK’s most streamed song of all time. It also ranks as the world’s fourth most streamed song.

Documentary And Second Album Drew Global Attention

Capaldi’s documentary How I’m Feeling Now debuted globally on Netflix in April 2023 and became the platform’s most viewed film upon release. It received a GRAMMY® nomination and drew attention to Capaldi’s mental health struggles and Tourette’s syndrome.

His latest album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent earned a UK number one and included three UK number one singles: “Pointless,” “Wish You The Best,” and “Forget Me.” The album achieved 95,000 units sold in its first week, outperforming his 2019 debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. That debut became the biggest selling UK album in both 2019 and 2020, securing two UK number one singles and a GRAMMY® nomination.

Return Supported By Mental Health Charity Partnership

Capaldi tested his return in May during a series of warm-up shows in Scotland. These performances were held in partnership with mental health charity CALM during Mental Health Awareness Week. The shows allowed Capaldi to assess his comfort and readiness to return to full touring.
