Supply-Chain Error Prompts Urgent Recall

High Noon has initiated a recall for certain 12-packs of its vodka seltzers after a packaging error resulted in some cans being mislabelled as Celsius energy drinks. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported the recall on Wednesday and said the affected products reached retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin between 21 and 23 July.

Mislabelling Details and Distribution

The error involves “beach variety packs” that included cans filled with High Noon vodka seltzer but packaged as CELSIUS® ASTRO VIBE™ Energy Drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition. The FDA warned, “Some of these packs contain cans that are filled with High Noon vodka seltzer alcohol and are mislabeled as CELSIUS® ASTRO VIBE™ Energy Drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition with a silver top.”

High Noon’s beach-themed variety packs became the subject of the recall after the involvement of a third-party packaging supplier. This supplier provides cans for both Celsius and High Noon brands, which led to the confusion.

Inside the Recall

Celsius confirmed in a statement that its packaging supplier accidentally shipped empty energy drink cans to High Noon’s facility. High Noon then filled them with vodka seltzer and included them in its 12-packs. Celsius has joined Gallo, High Noon’s parent company, and the can supplier in a joint investigation to determine how this occurred.

“Nobody has reported illnesses or adverse reactions,” the FDA stated.

High Noon vodka seltzers contain 4.5% alcohol by volume, using vodka and real fruit juice. The product launched in 2019 and, by 2022, led U.S. spirits by volume, according to Impact Databank. Celsius energy drinks, first released in Sweden in 2009, contain between 200 and 270 milligrams of caffeine per can.

Actions for Consumers

The recall focuses on two production lots: L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59, and L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. The affected cans have a silver lid, distinguishing them from standard Celsius products, which have black lids. The lot codes appear on the exterior of the High Noon box and the bottom of the can. Celsius has advised, “Check for the presence of a silver lid or the bottom of the can for lot codes L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11; both are signs that the product is affected.”

The FDA urges customers not to drink from the energy drink can in recalled packs. “Unintentional alcohol ingestion” remains a risk, especially for those seeking a caffeine boost without alcohol.

The recall has impacted distribution to eight states: Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin. The company’s spokesperson has not confirmed the exact number of affected cans.

Market Trends

Celsius’ popularity has grown among Gen Z, fitness fans and politicians. The Senate refectory and House of Representatives feature Celsius in vending machines, as reported by The Washington Post earlier this year. House Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly stores the drinks in his office fridge.

High Noon remains a prominent player in the ready-to-drink alcohol market. Its swift rise since 2019 underlines the segment’s broader momentum in the U.S.

Customer Support and Next Steps

Consumers with questions can contact High Noon Consumer Relations at consumerrelations@highnoonvodka.com for refunds or information. The FDA and Celsius both encourage customers to inspect the relevant lot codes and can lid colours before consuming their drinks. No reports of illness or injury have resulted from this packaging confusion so far.

The FDA’s statement included images with guidance for identifying affected cans. No changes apply to other High Noon or Celsius products.
