A 45-year-old man has died after being struck by a Transperth bus near the Perth Arena on Friday evening. Man Dies at the Scene from Critical Injuries

The pedestrian sustained critical injuries in the crash. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but paramedics could not save him. Authorities confirmed he died at the location shortly after the impact. Photos from the area showed emergency vehicles surrounding the stopped bus in the middle of the road.

Bus Driver Assisting Police with Investigation

The 37-year-old driver of the Transperth bus did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
Police said the driver is cooperating fully and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
No charges have been laid, and authorities continue to gather evidence from the scene.

Major Crash Unit Appeals for Witnesses

The WA Police Major Crash Investigation Unit has launched a full inquiry into the incident.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses who saw the collision or have dashcam footage to come forward. They asked anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers or local police directly.

High Foot Traffic Due to Arena Event

At the time of the crash, there was increased foot traffic near the intersection due to an event at the Perth Arena. Authorities have not confirmed whether the victim was attending the event or was simply passing by. The area is usually busy on Friday evenings, especially when major events draw large crowds.

Locals Shocked by Second Fatal Bus Crash

This tragic incident follows a similar event in March, where a woman was hit and killed by a Transperth bus on the Causeway in East Perth. Locals expressed concern over pedestrian safety around busy intersections in the CBD. Many have called for improved lighting, clearer signals, and stronger pedestrian protections in high-traffic areas.

Emergency Services Respond Quickly

Emergency responders, including paramedics and police, arrived within minutes of the call. They cordoned off the scene and redirected traffic to allow investigators to examine the area. The intersection remained partially closed for several hours as police carried out their work.

Police Urge Caution for Drivers and Pedestrians

Following the fatality, police urged both pedestrians and drivers to take extra care in the city centre. They reminded drivers to be alert at busy intersections and for pedestrians to follow traffic signals. Authorities say road safety is a shared responsibility, especially during times of high foot and vehicle traffic.

No Further Details on the Victim

Police have not yet released the name of the 45-year-old man out of respect for his family. They have confirmed that his next of kin have been notified. Support services are being offered to those affected by the incident, including the bus driver and witnesses.

Investigation Will Examine All Factors

Investigators will review CCTV footage, interview witnesses, and analyse road conditions. They will also check for any mechanical faults with the Transperth bus involved in the collision. The findings will help determine if any charges or recommendations are necessary.

Public Urged to Support Ongoing Inquiry

Police are urging the public to assist by providing any footage or details that may clarify what happened. Even small details, such as the direction the pedestrian walked from, may be useful to investigators. The Major Crash team continues to investigate and will share more updates when available.
