Three former senior officials at the Countess of Chester Hospital were arrested this week on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, as British authorities intensify their investigation into leadership failures surrounding the neonatal deaths connected to former nurse Lucy Letby.
The arrests, which took place on Monday, mark the first time senior hospital managers have been detained since Letby was convicted in 2023 of murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven others at the hospital’s neonatal unit. Letby, 35, is currently serving multiple life sentences.

Warnings Were Reportedly Ignored

The hospital’s management has not issued a statement regarding the latest arrests.

The police investigation also extends to the Liverpool Women’s Hospital, where Letby briefly worked. Authorities are examining medical incidents across both facilities between 2012 and 2016 to determine whether any systemic failings occurred.
