Easter Tragedy on Chapel Street: Father of Six Fatally Stabbed in Prahran Brawl

Man Dies Following Early Morning Chapel Street Stabbing

A man died after an alleged stabbing incident on Easter Sunday in Melbourne’s inner suburb of Prahran. Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing about 1.30am on the busy Chapel Street strip. Authorities confirmed the altercation involved up to six individuals and occurred in front of numerous bystanders.

Victim Identified as Father of Six from Mickleham

Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Ruka Carlson from Mickleham. Paramedics transported him to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Fiancé Shares Victim’s Final Text Message

Mr Carlson’s fiancé, Monique, disclosed the final message she received from him prior to the incident. According to Monique, the message read, “Okay I’m just eating now and I’m coming home baby, I love you.” The couple shared six children aged from less than one year to nine years.

Family Grieves Loss of Partner and Father

Monique stated, “Our six kids and I are suffering immensely without him.” She remembered Mr Carlson as “the most beautiful soul on earth” and described him as a “loving, caring, gentle father.” The couple had been in a relationship for several years and were planning to marry within months.

Scene Investigated by Homicide Detectives

Victoria Police closed off Chapel Street between Malvern Road and High Street following the incident. Homicide detectives examined the area near the Love Machine nightclub. Authorities confirmed the altercation did not begin inside the venue.

Police Discover Bottle and Firearm at the Scene

Investigators located a glass bottle at the scene. Officers collected it as evidence to determine if it was the weapon used. Police also discovered a firearm nearby. The weapon was sent for testing to determine its authenticity and relevance.

Officers Search Vehicles Linked to Scene

Forensic officers inspected two vehicles near the location. A white Mitsubishi with a broken door mirror was found on Little Chapel Street. Police also examined a white Mercedes sedan abandoned on Carlton Street. Both vehicles were towed at around 9.30am.

Witness Describes Victim’s Condition After Incident

A bystander who attempted to assist Mr Carlson said, “He was bleeding everywhere, he was bleeding so much.” Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses or those with information to come forward.

Police Investigate Links to Groups or Affiliations

Detective Acting Inspector Chris Ellway addressed the media on Sunday. He stated, “We’ll be exploring any links to groups or affiliations.” He also noted, “I don’t think it’s a random attack.” He added that Mr Carlson was known to police but did not elaborate further.

Call for Public Assistance in Ongoing Investigation

Acting Inspector Ellway urged the public to assist with the investigation. He said, “There was a lot of vehicle traffic as well, so any dashcam footage.” Investigators continue reviewing evidence and are working to identify suspects.

Community Pays Tribute to Mr Carlson

Friends and relatives of Mr Carlson posted tributes online. One friend wrote, “RIP my brother.” Another described the news as “shattering.” A relative of Monique shared, “(She) is now going to be raising their babies on her own and they will all be devastated to have lost their dad.”

No Arrests Yet in Chapel Street Stabbing Case

Victoria Police confirmed no arrests had been made by Sunday evening. Authorities believe five to six people were involved in the altercation that led to Mr Carlson’s death.

Police encouraged anyone with information, dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The investigation remains active as homicide detectives continue gathering evidence.
