Drag Star Jiggly Caliente Dies at 44 After Battle With Severe Infection

Jiggly Caliente, beloved drag performer and activist, passed away at the age of 44 following complications from a severe infection, her family confirmed. Best known for competing in Season 4 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and later appearing on Drag Race All Stars, Caliente — whose real name was Bianca Castro-Arabejo — left an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and the LGBTQ+ community.

Her family announced that Caliente had undergone a partial leg amputation as a result of the infection. Despite receiving medical care, she died on Sunday at 4:42am, surrounded by her closest family and friends. “She was cherished by many and her light will continue to shine,” her family said in a heartfelt statement on Instagram.

Tributes From Around the World

Following the announcement of her passing, tributes poured in from fans, fellow performers, and friends. Michelle Visage, judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and BBC Radio 2 DJ, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram, remembering Caliente’s vibrant personality. “My jiggles… The laughter was endless, our talks were special, your energy was contagious,” Visage wrote. “You were and remain so very loved. This world has lost an angel.”

Producers of Drag Race Philippines, where Caliente served as a judge, also shared their sorrow. “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Jiggly,” they wrote. “Her humour, love, and light touched so many in the Drag Race family and beyond. Her legacy will continue to uplift the communities she advocated for.”

A Journey of Courage and Talent

Born on November 29, 1980, in the Philippines, Bianca Castro-Arabejo moved to New York as a child. Growing up, she found solace in the arts and eventually embraced the world of drag, carving out a distinctive space for herself with a style that combined humour, glamour, and fierce authenticity.

Her debut on RuPaul’s Drag Race showcased her talents and her vulnerabilities. Praised for her comedic timing and memorable lip-sync performances, Caliente became a fan favourite. Though she struggled with certain challenges, particularly costume-making tasks, her perseverance and heart won viewers over. She was eliminated before the final episode of Season 4, where Sharon Needles ultimately took the crown, but Caliente’s impact endured.

Later, Caliente bravely came out as transgender, using her platform to advocate for greater visibility and rights for the transgender community. Her return to the Drag Race franchise in All Stars Season 6 solidified her position as not just a performer, but also a role model for many.
