David Genat has won $9.2 million on the US reality series Deal or No Deal Island. The former Australian Survivor champion secured the second-largest cash prize in television history.
One of the Biggest Prizes in TV History
David Genat’s win is one of the largest ever recorded. His $US5.8 million ($A9.2 million) prize is second only to Jeff Allen’s $US10 million ($A15.9 million) victory on Beast Games.
Host Joe Manganiello highlighted the magnitude of the decision. “If you take this offer, this would be the most money anyone’s ever made on network television,” he said.

The Banker’s Surprise Reveal
Chrissy Teigen, revealed as the mysterious banker, played a key role in the final decision. She previously appeared as a briefcase model on the original Deal or No Deal series.

Game Strategy and Survivor Influence
Genat credited his experience on Australian Survivor for his win. “You can’t plan what’s going to happen but you can plan your relationships,” he told USA Today.
He formed alliances, avoided conflicts, and used his social skills to navigate the game.
A Calculated Decision
The final two cases contained $US75 and $US12,232,001. Genat chose to accept the banker’s offer.
“The offer came in at $5.8 million, and I started thinking about it,” he said. “I was having a spiritual experience, man.”
He believed his late father guided him through the game.
Sentimental Choice Behind Case Selection
Genat picked case 18 due to personal significance. “My three kids were born on 18,” he said.
His father passed away on the 18th, which was also his stepdaughter’s birthday. “It’s good to put some good positive vibes back on number 18,” he said.
Villain Reputation and Strategic Deception
Genat admitted that he had no regrets about his time on Deal or No Deal Island. He acknowledged that he is usually the “villain” of reality shows due to his competitive nature.
However, he was surprised by how he came across on the show. “After watching it back, I realized I was actually one of the nice guys,” he said.
As part of his strategy, Genat faked an entirely different life during the show. His castmates had no idea he had been on Australian Survivor until Teigen exposed him in the finale.
This deception allowed him to keep his motives hidden. “I might seem different on TV, but I’m actually pretty honest in real life,” he said.
Emotional Connection to Late Father
Genat reflected on his experience and shared an emotional moment. He felt a strong connection to his late father throughout the game.
He described feeling his father’s presence on the island, which gave him the confidence to take risks.
Genat believes that his father “gifted” him the prize money.
Praise from Reality TV Veterans
Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano praised Genat’s gameplay. “You were a freaking psycho, bro,” he said.
Mariano described Genat’s ability to hide his identity as highly impressive.
Parvati Shallow, a Survivor legend, was among the contestants this season. Genat directed attention toward her to avoid being targeted.
From Modelling to Reality TV Success
Genat, a former model, previously won Australian Survivor: All Stars in 2020. He secured $500,000 in prize money.
His total television winnings now approach $10 million.
Upcoming Survivor Appearance
Genat will return for Australian Survivor: Australia v The World. The series is set to air later this year.
He will compete against international reality TV veterans.
