Big Brother UK 2024 Crowns Season 21 Winner Amid Controversy

Big Brother UK 2024 Crowns Season 21 Winner Amid Controversy

ITV2 wrapped up the 21st season of Big Brother UK after 41 days of gripping drama, crowning Alison “Ali” Bromley as the winner. However, the grand finale divided fans, with some alleging that the show’s voting system was rigged.

A Night of Drama in the Finale

The highly anticipated finale, hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, brought the curtain down on a season packed with twists, alliances, and betrayals. Six housemates—Ali Bromley, Marcello Spooks, Emma Morgan, Hanah Haji, Nathan King, and Segun Shodipo—faced off for the £90,000 cash prize in the Big Brother 2024 final.

The evening began with Segun being evicted in sixth place, followed shortly by Nathan in fifth. Both housemates had their moments in the spotlight during post-eviction interviews with Odudu and Best, reflecting on their journey inside the house.

The public continued to vote Big Brother-style, and as tensions mounted, Hanah was announced as the fourth-place finisher despite solid support from the studio audience. Emma Morgan secured third place, leaving Ali and Marcello as the final two.

In the climactic moment, Odudu revealed that Ali had won with an impressive 51.9% of the Big Brother vote, leaving Marcello as the runner-up. Ali’s victory was celebrated with cheers from the studio audience as she stepped out of the house in a chic strapless purple mini-dress and polka dot tights, beaming as she waved to her fans.

Outrage Among Fans: A ‘Fix’ or Fair Game?

While Ali’s victory marked a personal triumph, the Big Brother 2024 finale sparked outrage among sections of the fanbase. Social media platforms lit up with accusations that the Big Brother voting system was unfairly manipulated to favour certain housemates.

“Yeah, ITV is such a fix. Marcello would NEVER be in 2nd. Terrible guy. BigBrother,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Another wrote, “51% vote reopened and revoted.” The hashtags BigBrother and FixBrother trended as fans expressed their frustration.

Marcello’s second-place finish was particularly controversial. Known for his abrasive behaviour and offhand remarks, Marcello was repeatedly booed during live shows, making his placement suspicious.

Marcello Spooks: The Divisive Runner-Up

Marcello Spooks, who finished second in the competition, was a polarising figure throughout the season. While his quick wit and confidence initially drew attention, his blunt comments and perceived arrogance alienated many viewers.

In his exit interview, Marcello addressed some controversies surrounding his behaviour, including his remark about a housemate’s “pH levels.” While he dismissed it as “boy banter,” he admitted it may have gone too far.

“At the end of the day, I’ve had a few bad experiences. It is boy banter, but I should have kept to the friendship group,” he conceded.

Reflecting on the experience, Marcello said, “You just pray you don’t go in week one. Then you have Dean and Ali after you, so it’s hard. I’ve always said Ali is nice, but we’re different characters.”

The Future of Big Brother UK

ITV has confirmed that Big Brother UK will return for a 22nd season in 2025, alongside a second season of Celebrity Big Brother UK set to air in the spring. These seasons will coincide with the 25th anniversary of Big Brother in the UK.

“Big Brother programming has firmly established itself across ITV’s platforms and become a favourite with our viewers,” said Paul Mortimer, ITV’s Director of Reality Commissioning. “Together, Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother have grown audiences on ITV1 and ITV2 and amassed almost 100 million streams on ITVX. We’re excited to throw open the House doors again for more captivating moments.”
