Bali Tourist Death Female Visitors Swept Away in deadly Floods

Bali Island has come into the limelight due to a series of unfortunate events, with a female tourist being the first casualty during the island’s major flooding. The floodwaters coming from Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S were so severe that they overran the popular coastal town of Canggu, where the tourist was swept away.

The cyclone and subsequent bad weather brought along heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas, with flooding affecting Kuta, Seminyak, and Denpasar to a large extent. The woman was said to be caught under a pipe under the Krisnantara Road Bridge in Tibubeneng Village after being swept off the road with her motorcycle.

Her corpse was retrieved by the rescue team around 10:30 am local time and then taken to the nearest hospital for examination.

How Did The Tourist Get Swept Away?

In the eyes of the authorities, the woman might have tried to go through the floodwaters, only to be overtaken by the strong current along with her motorcycle. The Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of Badung Police, First Inspector Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, stated that the sudden flooding around the bridge was triggered by heavy rainfall at about 1 am.

Immediately, the search and rescue personnel started a recovery operation with 22 officers involved to safely remove the body from the culvert. The motorcycle is still trapped, however, owing to the raging water currents.

What Is The Current Weather Situation In Bali?

BMKG, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology & Geophysics Agency, has formally announced an alert for extreme weather conditions for the Bali Province that will last until December 18.
