Dylan Dreyer, beloved meteorologist and co-host of NBC’s third hour of “Today,” shared a deeply personal update with fans on Friday. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she announced that she and her husband, Brian Fichera, have decided to separate.
Dreyer, 43, posted the news just hours after finishing her morning duties on “Today.” Along with a serene sunset photo, she wrote about the decision with honesty and grace, explaining why she felt it was important to share this part of her life with fans.
“For many years, I’ve shared my family with you, the highs, the lows, and everything in between,” Dreyer wrote. “For that reason, I want to let you know that a few months ago, Brian and I decided to separate.”
Putting Family First
Despite the separation, Dreyer stressed that the love and respect between her and Fichera remain. The pair plan to co-parent their three sons, Calvin, Oliver, and Rusty, together, keeping family at the center of their lives.
“We began as friends, and we will remain the closest of friends,” she said. “Most importantly, we’ll continue raising our boys together with nothing but love.”
The couple, who married in 2012, has often shared glimpses of their home life with fans through social media and segments on “Today.” Dreyer has frequently spoken about the joys and challenges of motherhood, and Fichera has appeared alongside her in family photos and stories throughout the years.
From Newsroom Colleagues to Life Partners
Dreyer and Fichera’s love story started behind the scenes in the newsroom. The two met while working at WHDH, Boston’s NBC affiliate, where Dreyer worked as a meteorologist starting in 2007. Fichera worked as a cameraman and technician. What started as a professional friendship eventually turned into romance.
By the time Dreyer joined NBC News nationally in September 2012, the couple had tied the knot, marking the beginning of a 13-year marriage that would be filled with career changes, cross-country moves, and the growth of their family.

Life in the Public Eye
Fans of the “Today” show have followed Dreyer’s life for more than a decade, not just her weather forecasts but also her milestones. She’s never shied away from sharing both the fun and the messy parts of life, from parenting stories to relatable family moments.
Even though Fichera has appeared less frequently on her Instagram feed this year, Dreyer posted a sweet Father’s Day tribute to him in June. “Happy Father’s Day, Bri!!” she captioned a family selfie on June 15, highlighting the role he plays in their children’s lives.
In 2023, the couple shared their approach to maintaining a strong marriage in an interview with Today.com. Their secret? Spending quality time together, even if it was just hitting the golf course.
“Golf is the thing we do together,” Dreyer said at the time. “We have a couple of drinks, we laugh, we remember why we fell in love. Then we go home, and it’s right back to family.”
A Difficult Year for the ‘Today’ Family
Dreyer’s announcement comes during a challenging time for the “Today” show team. In May, her co-host Sheinelle Jones lost her husband, Uche Ojeh, after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. He was just 45 years old.
Savannah Guthrie, the show’s lead anchor, shared the sad news with viewers on air, calling it a heartbreaking loss for the “Today” family.
Dreyer posted her emotional tribute to Sheinelle on social media, writing, “I wish I had the words to help you feel better. We’re all sending love and prayers to you and your family.”
Moving Forward With Love and Respect
For Dreyer, sharing her separation with the public is part of her long-standing commitment to authenticity. Over the years, she’s built a reputation for being candid with her audience. Whether she’s chatting about the weather or life at home with three young boys, fans have come to know her as someone who tells it like it is.
After posting the news, Dreyer’s Instagram was flooded with messages of support from followers and fellow broadcasters. Many thanked her for her honesty and wished her family peace and happiness as they navigate this transition.
As for what’s next? Dreyer plans to continue in her role as co-host of “Today’s” third hour and as a trusted meteorologist on NBC. She hasn’t mentioned any changes to her career, and by all accounts, she’ll be back on the air as usual.
“We’re moving forward together as a family,” Dreyer said, “just in a different way than before.”
