Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Confirmed
Black Ops 7 Revealed: Activision has officially confirmed Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 during the Summer 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. The game continues the storyline directly after Black Ops 6 and is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software. This marks the first consecutive release in Black Ops history, signaling a bold new chapter for the iconic franchise.
Set in the year 2035, Black Ops 7 will feature futuristic warfare and a co-op campaign, bringing a fresh gameplay experience to longtime fans and new players alike.
Black Ops 7 Set in 2035
The new game sets its events in the year 2035. It follows the aftermath of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. A world devastated by conflict and psychological warfare forms the backdrop. David Mason returns to lead the team once again. The Black Ops team must combat a manipulative enemy who uses fear as their main weapon.
Black Ops 7 Trailer Reveals Surreal Story
Xbox and Activision released the first teaser during the showcase. The cinematic features fragmented consciousness and surreal visuals. The teaser includes red data butterflies, collapsing cityscapes and talking robot butlers. These elements suggest a warped reality for the protagonist. David Mason, last seen in 2018’s Black Ops 4, leads the narrative. The game continues the Black Ops universe’s timeline and mythology.
Activision Outlines Creative Vision
Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, shared insights on the game’s development. “The Black Ops universe is amazing. The creativity and imagination that goes into the storytelling, the rich character depth, and the incredible moment-to-moment gameplay across all modes is really exceptional. As a team, our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise.”
Co-op Campaign and New Multiplayer
Players can experience Black Ops 7 alone or with friends through a new co-op campaign. They can access near-future weaponry and advanced gear in both solo and multiplayer gameplay. Brand-new multiplayer maps are confirmed, adding variety and tactical challenge to each match.
Zombies Return in the Dark Aether Saga
Round-based Zombies returns in Black Ops 7. The mode continues the Dark Aether storyline from previous games. This new chapter explores deeper lore, combat systems and survival mechanics in chaotic environments.
Marketing Builds on Community Excitement
Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, outlined the marketing direction. “The team is looking to build on the incredible community enthusiasm and excitement we’ve seen within the Black Ops universe. This is the first time we’re staying within the Black Ops series with back-to-back releases, so we’re excited to give players a bit more time to enjoy all the live seasons and provide players more of what they want across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ before we turn the page to Black Ops 7.”

Delivering consecutive Black Ops games also allows our teams the tremendous opportunity to tap not only into our own creativity but also embrace the shift from a ’90s setting to the new 2035 future setting within our marketing.”

Bahl confirmed that more teasers and reveals will follow. “Today is only the beginning with this first teaser. The full reveal of Black Ops 7 is coming later this summer, so the community should be on the lookout for teases, clues and the surprises that the Black Ops series is known for.
