Capricorn Metals Finishes Karlawinda Upgrade Ahead of Schedule

Capricorn Metals has closed out its Karlawinda expansion early, and the plant is already running at full pace.

Capricorn Metals Ltd (ASX: CMM) has finished the Karlawinda Expansion Project. Ore now runs non-stop through the new crushing, milling and CIL circuits, working side by side with the original plant.

The Company confirmed the news on 23 Sep 2026, and the timing is the headline here. Karlawinda has gone from expansion to steady-state throughput without missing its own deadline.

What the Karlawinda Processing Circuit Upgrade Involved

Capricorn Metals confirmed that construction and installation works finished on schedule. Commissioning was completed over the two weeks prior to the announcement.

All components of the new plant are now operational. The plant is transitioning to full throughput on a steady-state basis, according to the Company.

Why This Output Strategy Shift Matters to Investors

A completed processing upgrade removes a key execution risk that investors typically watch closely. Projects delivered on time and on budget tend to build confidence in the market more consistently.

For Capricorn Metals, the upgrade of the Karlawinda processing circuit also means operational continuity. Today, the Company operates an integrated plant with higher capacity instead of two separate streams of processing.

Who Delivered the Karlawinda Expansion Project

The Capricorn construction team completed the project in 12 months. The Company acknowledged a number of key partners for their support in delivering the upgrade.

  • Interquip
  • CPC Engineering
  • ECG Engineering
  • Jagcor
  • HMR

Capricorn Executive Chairman Mark Clark said the milestone reflected a significant effort across the business. He described it as the result of sustained work from construction and operations teams, supported by key contractors.

Where and When the Upgrade Was Completed

The announcement was released on 23 Sep 2026 and authorised by the Capricorn Metals board. The Karlawinda Expansion Project is now fully incorporated into the broader Karlawinda Gold Project.

The new plant is currently processing low-grade ore. It will transition to run of mine grade ore over the coming week as the plant reaches steady state.

How the Expanded Project Will Operate Going Forward

Commissioning of CIL areas and TSF 2 pipework is complete. Run-of-mine ore stocks continue to build on ROM Pad 2 as processing ramps up.

Further optimisation of product size from the KEP crushing circuit remains ongoing. This Capricorn Metals production upgrade 2026 milestone sets the stage for sustained output at the expanded rate.

Production and Mine Life Outlook

The expanded Karlawinda Gold Project should produce around 150,000 ounces of gold a year. Existing reserves back a mine life of more than 10 years.

Mr Clark said the Company now looks forward to transitioning Karlawinda into a long-life operation. He referenced the targeted annual output figure directly in his comments.

The completed upgrade positions Capricorn Metals among miners delivering tangible production upgrades in 2026. Execution against stated timelines remains a key differentiator across ASX-listed gold producers.

Future Direction and Impact on Production Output

Impact on production output will become clearer as the plant moves fully to run-of-mine grade ore. The transition from low-grade processing marks the next phase of this Capricorn Metals Karlawinda output strategy.

According to the announcement, further optimisation of the KEP crushing circuit is ongoing. The Company has not provided a specific date for when full optimisation will be complete.

Capricorn Metals flagged that forward-looking statements in the announcement carry risks. Resource risk, metals price volatility, currency swings and variances in ore grade or recovery rates all sit on that list.
