Alkane’s Peak Hill Drilling Opens New Gold Targets

Alkane Resources drilled about 1 km below its Proprietary pit at Peak Hill and found gold and copper at depth. Follow-up drilling is set for November.

Alkane Resources (ASX: ALK) went looking for a copper-gold porphyry and found something different. The Company drilled one deep hole beneath its Peak Hill Gold Project in New South Wales. It announced the results on October 15, 2026. The hole was not on the porphyry target but did intersect gold and copper at depth.

The gold drilling results at Peak Hill are significant in that they demonstrate the gold system worked previously extends deep below the surface. Mineralisation appeared about 1 km below the Proprietary open cut. Grades are lower than those near the deposit core.

Peak Hill Gold Drilling Results From Hole PHD084

Alkane Resources completed diamond hole PHD084 to 1,651 m on the Peak Hill Gold Project. The hole ended about 1 km vertically below the base of the Proprietary open cut.

Alkane Resources designed the hole to test below interpreted hydrothermal conduits linked to a porphyry system. The hole reached transitional phyllic alteration but did not reach an underlying porphyry intrusion. This round of Alkane Resources gold exploration was supported by an A$165,000 NSW Critical Minerals grant.

Deep Alteration Signals a New Direction for Alkane Resources Gold Exploration

Alkane Resources saw several signs that a magmatic source may sit close to the hole. These include anhydrite-quartz veins, sericite-pyrite veinlets and pebble dykes. Pebble dykes commonly occur above magmatic intrusions.

Alkane Resources also found the advanced argillic alteration continuing for over 1 km vertically. That points to strong vertical continuation of the previously mined epithermal mineralisation. The Company says additional sulphide mineralisation below the Proprietary open cut is not yet fully evaluated.

Lower Grades Leave Questions Open

Alkane Resources noted that the Peak Hill gold drilling results show elevated gold and copper at lower grades. This may mark the start of a transition to a porphyry setting. It may also mean the hole hit the system’s edge. The high-grade core could still sit north or south of the hole.

Alkane Resources Managing Director Nic Earner said: “The drilling highlights the potential for mineralisation to continue at significant depth beneath Peak Hill.”

Peak Hill Gold Project Location and Resource

Alkane Resources owns the Peak Hill Gold Project outright. It sits about 60 km southwest of Dubbo in Central West New South Wales. The site is about 10 km south of the Tomingley Gold Operations.

Alkane Resources mined the oxidised cap of the system up to 2005. The mine is now under care and maintenance.

Industry Outlook

Alkane Resources says gold and copper prices have risen significantly since the Peak Hill resource was estimated. Within the gold mining sector, that shift has justified further examination of Peak Hill. The Company is confident of strengthening eastern Australia’s reputation as a significant gold, copper and antimony production region.

Future Direction and Impact on Peak Hill Resource Potential

Alkane Resources plans six more holes totalling 6,600 m at the Peak Hill Gold Project from November. The Alkane Resources gold exploration program will test the area between PHD084 and the Proprietary Inferred Resource. It also aims to check whether PHD084 missed the high-grade core.

Alkane Resources will plan further drilling based on the porphyry study results. New Peak Hill gold drilling results will show whether the high-grade core exists. The impact falls on how the Company assesses Peak Hill depth potential and any porphyry source below. Investors in the gold mining sector will watch the November program and 2027 assays.
