WA Health Alerts Public to Measles Risk
WA Health has issued an urgent health warning after a person with measles attended Drake’s Perth concert at RAC Arena. The infected individual, a returned traveller from Bali, visited several public places while contagious between 2 and 7 February.
Health authorities have urged Perth residents to monitor for symptoms after the individual’s movements in the city. Measles spreads easily, and those who were at exposure locations should remain vigilant.
Exposure Locations Include Concert, Cafes, and Medical Centre
The infected person attended the Drake concert on 4 February at RAC Arena from 8:15 pm to 11:30 pm. Other locations visited include:
- 3 Quarters Topped Up Cafe, East Perth – multiple visits between 3 and 7 February
- Royal Street Barbers, East Perth – 3 February, 4:00 pm – 5:45 pm
- GP After Hours Clinic, Armadale – 5 February, 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm
- WA Department of Health, East Perth – multiple visits on 3, 4, and 7 February
Authorities advise people who visited these places to watch for symptoms for 18 days after possible exposure.

Health Officials Urge Symptom Monitoring
Dr Paul Armstrong, WA Health’s Director of Communicable Disease Control, stressed the importance of early detection.
“Anyone who has visited an exposure location during the dates and times listed should monitor for symptoms and, if symptomatic, wear a mask and seek medical care,” he said.
He advised symptomatic individuals to call ahead before visiting a doctor or hospital.
“Before presenting at a GP clinic or emergency department, call ahead so staff can ensure you do not infect other patients and staff.”
Measles Symptoms and Risks
Measles symptoms usually appear 10 to 18 days after exposure. Early signs include:
- Fever
- Tiredness
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Sore eyes
A red, non-itchy rash follows after three to four days, starting on the face before spreading across the body.
Measles can lead to serious complications, especially in young children and unvaccinated individuals. Anyone unsure of their vaccination status should check with their doctor.
