The discovery of the corpse of the glacier in the Pakistani country has eased the minds of one family that had been hunting an absentee family member for close to thirty years. An obese Naseeruddin, who disappeared in 1997, was discovered by a shepherd on August 1, 2025, in the isolated Kohistan district in the north of Pakistan. His intact body was discovered in the vicinity of Lady Meadows glacier, or what most people refer to as Supat Valley, because of the harsh glacial conditions.

The body was found by local shepherd Omar Khan, who discovered the body after falling on it by chance during the county of animals. He found the environment beautiful, and what caught him by surprise was that the body was still intact, with no clothes torn or damaged. Malik Ubaid, a nephew of the victim, described during an interview with journalists that the family tried to find him repeatedly for years. Naseeruddin was 31 when he went missing. He had two kids and had run away from home with his brother during an unresolved conflict in the village. With the remains now being found, the family has finally been able to hold a burial service, and some long-delayed emotional closure.

Researchers noticed that the condition of the body can be accounted for in terms of glacial preservation. Director, Department of Environment at COMSATS University Islamabad, Professor Muhammad Bilal said that freezing temperatures suddenly halt the decomposition process. There is no oxygen or moisture in a glacier, which also helps in preserving the body as a mummy.
Such natural preservation is possible only when there are specific environmental conditions. Glaciers, being their continuously freezing climate, are akin to safe vaults that protect from deterioration over centuries.
