Australian Fans Set to Welcome Sheeran Back
Ed Sheeran will return to Australia in 2026 with his newly announced Loop Tour, starting in January. The tour will begin in New Zealand before moving across Australian stadiums throughout February and March.
Sheeran’s last tour, Mathematics, set records in Australia. In March 2023, he drew 110,000 and 108,000 fans to the MCG on consecutive nights. The Divide Tour in 2018 also broke records, with over one million tickets sold across Australia and New Zealand.

Loop Tour Focuses on Simplicity and Sound
The Loop Tour will present a shift in Sheeran’s performance style. He announced the return during a press event broadcast from Bertie Blossoms pub in London. The Sydney-based Lord Dudley Hotel was transformed into a Sheeran-themed venue for the announcement.
He said, “The Loop tour would feature a new stage, new tricks, new set, new songs, old songs.” He confirmed the new tour would be less complex than the previous stadium tours.
The show will centre around the loop pedal, a device Sheeran used early in his career. “The pedal from when I started has expanded … it’s kind of like a loop pedal on steroids now,” he said.
Sheeran noted that his recent shows had evolved so much he felt disconnected from the raw appeal of live music. With the Loop Tour, he plans to return to that foundation while still delivering an energetic show.
Australian Connection Remains Strong
The Loop Tour will launch in Australia and New Zealand, a region Sheeran called crucial to his journey. “The first place I was accepted as a musician and loved outside of the United Kingdom was Australia,” he said.
Sheeran has regularly worked with Australian acts as tour support. Past openers have included Missy Higgins, Fergus James, Bliss n Eso, Budjerah and Conrad Sewell. While he did not name acts for 2026, he confirmed plans to collaborate with locals again.
He also plans to visit schools as part of his music foundation’s ongoing initiatives. “There [are] areas of Australia that [have] amazing music being created in,” Sheeran said.

Cultural Influence Shapes Upcoming Tour
Sheeran’s latest music features Persian and Indian influences. His recent singles, Azizam and Sapphire, explore global instrumentation and themes. He said this cross-cultural direction will feature prominently on the Loop Tour.
“Once we get to Australia, I’d love to come and do stuff with First Nations artists as well,” Sheeran said. He added, “I think that’s been very fun throughout the tour, going different places, soaking up the culture, playing different instruments, different music, different languages.”
Personal Ties to Australia
Sheeran holds strong connections to Australian figures including Michael Gudinski and Shane Warne. He performed at Gudinski’s 2021 memorial and honoured his legacy during the 2023 MCG performance.
He confirmed plans to visit both the Gudinski and Warne families during the 2026 tour. However, he clarified that the tour itself would remain focused on music and would not publicly include these tributes.
