From Reality TV to Global Runways
Markovic first gained attention as the runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2015. At just 17, she impressed judges and viewers with her poise and talent. She later worked with renowned brands like Versace, Armani, and Victoria Beckham.

The Brain Condition That Took Her Life
AVM is a rare tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins. This condition disrupts normal blood flow and can cause brain bleeds, seizures, and strokes.
The Brain Foundation estimates AVMs occur in three out of every 10,000 people. While some live without symptoms, others, like Markovic, experience severe complications.
Markovic’s Final Health Update
In March, she shared her AVM journey on Instagram. She revealed she had undergone radiation, suffered seizures, and was on heavy medication.
“I will be undergoing brain surgery on the 26th of this month for the AVM in the back of my brain (arteriovenous malformation) that is the size of a golf ball. (Now has changed to the 2nd of April).”
She expressed mixed emotions before surgery: “Excited, thankful, scared, supported, hopeful.”
Loved Ones Confirm Her Passing
On Thursday night, a story on her Instagram account revealed she was “battling” for her life.
A few hours later, another update announced her passing:
“I regret to inform you that Lucy has passed. She was at peace. Me, her mother and my mother were present with her. We ask you to please give us space in these hard times.”
Fashion Icons Pay Tribute
The fashion world mourned the loss of Markovic. Italian designer Donatella Versace shared a heartfelt message:
“I am so sorry to hear the news. Rest in peace, darling girl.”
Her agency, Elite Model Management, called her a “shining light.”
“Modelling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are deeply honoured to have been part of that journey with her. She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself—her warmth, her laughter, her light.”
Fans Express Heartbreak
Markovic’s followers flooded social media with tributes.
“It’s hard to understand how such a beautiful soul can be taken from this world, while so much darkness remains,” one person wrote.
Another commented, “I hope the family find some peace and comfort knowing she was so loved and admired by many people.”
A Career Cut Short
Markovic had a promising future in fashion. She was a regular at major fashion weeks and had built an impressive portfolio. She had also worked with major Australian labels such as Sass & Bide and Ksubi before securing international gigs.
Her sudden passing has left the fashion industry in shock.
What’s Next for AVM Awareness?
Markovic’s death has shed light on AVM, a condition many know little about. The Brain Foundation urges people to seek medical attention if they experience unexplained seizures, severe headaches, or vision problems.
Her story may inspire greater awareness and research into rare brain conditions.
A Life Remembered
Despite her short life, Markovic left a lasting impact. She inspired young models and proved that Australian talent could shine on the global stage.
Her family, friends, and fans will continue to honour her memory.
